This is the time of year when fruit flies are at their worst, and seem to multiply by the million. The only way to get rid is to starve them! Transfer every source of food in the house – including bread and hard vegetables – to the fridge, and soon you’ll be fruit-fly-free!

How to clean a narrow-mouthed glass container
Mix half warm water, half vinegar (any type) with a handful of sand. Pour this sludge into your container, give it a good swirl and leave to stand for about an hour before rinsing thoroughly.
Never again suffer a watered-down G&T
Reusable ice cubes are such a great idea in the summer heat – after all, who wants a watered-down G&T? £5.99 for 24 from Lakeland.
Eke out that mascara
If you’ve not used your mascara for a while and it’s dried up, heat it in the microwave for about 30 seconds (so long as the container isn’t metal) to get it moving again. Put a bowl of water along with it to help take up some of the energy.
Freshen up your carpets
If your carpets are looking dull, I can recommend the NEW BISSELL HydroWave. It’s surprisingly light and easy to manoeuvre—worked wonders on a cream carpet I thought wasn’t too grubby! It has two cleaning modes: Express (for everyday spills) and Deep Clean (for a more intensive job). It’s easy to fill and the cleaning fluid smells divine, plus the nozzle spray for targeted cleaning is really useful. £279.99 from major electrical retailers and bisselldirect.co.uk
Relieve your snuffles…
Do you often wake up with a blocked nose? Rather than a cold, it could well be down to a dust mite allergy. Vacuum both your mattress and under the bed often, and wash bedlinen at 50 degrees. Use anti-allergen covers on pillows.
