If you roast a chicken and don’t have enough time afterwards to boil the carcass for stock, wrap it well, stick in the freezer and boil it another day

Straight from the freezer – when you have more time!

Make double quantities and half your work

If you’re preparing a casserole or lasagne, make double (much less than double the work) and freeze the other half for later.

The freezer’s also a great place to store food about to go past its use-by date and you know won’t be eaten before it does – that way you can cut down on waste.

Mould removal

shower, tile, bathroom

If the grouting in your bathroom is covered in mould, but you don’t want to use chemical sprays on it, douse in vodka instead.

Leave to soak for a good 15 minutes and then scrub off – you should be left mould-free.

Great way to remove milk that has burnt in saucepan just add a dishwasher tablet, boil up for a few minutes and scrape off the burnt bits.

Quick plate-warmer

If you’re ready to serve food and forgotten to heat the plates, stick them (but not any with metal parts) in the microwave on a medium setting for 30 seconds. Works a treat!
