How to look after your glass-topped table

It seems a good idea when new…then it’s an absolute bind to keep it looking good.

The surface will scratch easily so protective coasters and cloths are a good idea.

Clean smears with a damp cloth wrung out in warm soapy water and buff dry.

Any chips or scratches can sometimes be filed down with the finest grade of sandpaper.

How to keep tops of kitchen cupboards clean

Do your kitchen cupboards reach almost but not quite to the ceiling?

The tops will take on that nasty, hard-to-shift combination of grease and dust.

Save yourself cleaning time by laying down sheets of newspaper and every so often remove and replace with new sheets.

Get those taps gleaming!

When cleaning the bathroom, finish off by polishing taps and shining the basin and mirror with towels that you’re about to put in the washing machine.

Avoid those embarrassing marks in the loo …

Next time you’re at a friend’s house and need to go for a sit-down in the smallest room, first lay down about 3-4 sheets of loo paper on top of the water.

Then you can freely go into action in the secure knowledge that, post-flush, there will be no stains left behind because everything will have landed on the paper!

(That tip is courtesy of my younger son.)

Hot weather getting to you?

Stick a bunch of plump black grapes in the freezer for a few hours, and when they’re nice and solid, pop them into your mouth like sweeties.

Guilt-free and gorgeous!

I love my

fabric, wool, yarn

My cashmere cardi bargain from a while back was covered in bobbles. Of course I could pick them off one by one, but they were like a rash!

Then I came across the wonderful battery-operated Lint Shaver from Russel that removes pills and fuzz effortlessly;

£4.49 from Robert Dyas.

Battered stainless steel kitchen surface?

I used to have one and I quite liked the scratches (shows some action is taking place!), but if you’re less keen, a good remedy is T-Cut, which is used to eradicate scratches on car surfaces.
